I love a good 2D Platformer as much as the next person. In fact, I’ve played a ton of them over the years, including a few really solid Indie ones. While Pale Night isn’t wholly original, the concept of a platformer where you must avoid light at all costs is interesting to me. It’s kinda like a vampire simulator, well, if you replaced “light” with “sunlight” I suppose.

Pretty French Games released Pale Night on Friday for PC. The developer is a one-man studio based in Paris, France, founded by Simon Andersen. Pale Night, as I previously mentioned, is a 2D minimalistic platformer in the vein of Thomas Was Alone with a unique gameplay concept. If Pal touches any light he evaporates and must avoid light at all costs.

Here is what the press release has to say about the game. “Help Pal overcome the curse forcing him to hide from light. Explore the world of Vector and join an epic adventure through a beautiful world of shapes and colors in this tight platformer where light is the enemy.

Pale Night is a styled minimalist 2D adventure with a twist on the classic platformer genre, where your character must avoid light at all costs. During your journey through the Vector world, you’ll explore sleeping forests, moody caverns, and overcome your fears within the Mount Thunder.

The world of Pale Night is filled with hidden secrets and puzzles based on lights and shadows. Collecting all prisms adds an extra challenge for players willing to conquer it. Use the dash orb and the dig orb to move lightning fast under the shadows and use the cloud orb to control the shades. Once you’ve mastered the game, showcase your platforming skills within time-attack challenges.”

Personally, I like games like Pale Night. They add a different sort of challenge to your typical platformer. I’m not often the type for time trials or things like that, but the challenge Pale Night brings sounds pretty cool. If you like Platformers, maybe Pale Night is for you.
