Unpacking was definitely an indie darling in the Phenixx Gaming virtual office last year. Lisa, Keiran, and I (along with a few others) really found ourselves enjoying the heartfelt (and lowkey) experience that Unpacking offered. Now it seems that PlayStation users will be getting a chance to play Unpacking as well.

Developer Witch Beam and publisher Humble Games have announced that Unpacking will receive a PlayStation launch this spring. Additionally, they will be working with Limited Run Games to release physical versions of Unpacking on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Physical editions will come with a collector’s sleeve, and you can pre-order the physical edition now.

As previously mentioned, we only have a spring release window for the PlayStation version. As such, there is no full release date at this time. Here is what the press release has to say about Unpacking.

Unpacking is a zen game about the familiar experience of pulling possessions out of boxes and fitting them into a new home. Part block-fitting puzzle, part home decoration, players are invited to create a satisfying living space while learning clues about the life they’re unpacking. Over the course of eight house moves, they are given a chance to experience a sense of intimacy with a character they never see and a story they’re never told.

Since its launch, Unpacking has won prestigious awards from the Game Developers Choice Awards, SXSW Gaming Awards, D.I.C.E. Awards, BandLab NME Awards, Australian Game Developer Awards, and Can I Play That? Accessibility Awards. Unpacking has also received awards nominations in numerous categories from the BAFTA Game Awards, IGF Awards, Game Development World Championship Awards, Gayming Awards, GLAAD, and Video Game Accessibility Awards.”

I’m excited for more people to get their hands on Unpacking. I think we all could use something a little more low-key these days, even if it is just something to cleanse our palate after spending hours playing Triangle Strategy, Elden Ring, Ghostwire Tokyo, or Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Hopefully, we’ll get a full release date soon.
