DigixArt and Ravenscourt’s Road 96 was one of the standout games for me last year. Combining political intrigue with personal, heartfelt stories and a procedurally generated gameplay experience was nothing short of masterful. I’m very excited to hear that Road 96 will be coming to more platforms, specifically PlayStation and Xbox consoles in April.

While no specific release date was given, we know for certain that it will come to these platforms in April barring any major delays. CEO and Creative Director at DigixArt Yoan Fanise commented on this upcoming release, stating:

It’s really exciting to think that console players will soon be able to take their first steps on the emotional journey as they make a break for freedom. Road 96, with its inspiration from the classic road trip movies from the ’90s, seemed a natural fit to this generation of both consoles and their owners. Sit back and prepare for a road trip like no other.

Road 96 captures the magic of a road trip, while also seamlessly filtering in political intrigue in a way that really showcases how helpless you can feel as a young person or kid. Playing as a teen fleeing a country rife with political turmoil brings up some surprisingly tense and frightening moments. However, with colorful characters and a soundtrack filled with hits from the ’90s, the game manages to keep some parts light and calm.

It very much feels like a personal journey, but also a story that could feel both contemporary and timeless in the right ways. I’m very excited that PlayStation and Xbox players will get to experience it firsthand. It really felt like an instant classic as I played it, and I hope to see more games that utilize some of the mechanical aspects of its storytelling in the future.
