With Covid-19 continuing to nip at all of our lives like the neighbors’ dog who doesn’t know when to go home, it is often difficult to find a sense of peace and serenity. I have personally had to be rather cautious with the adventures that I go on because I care about the family members that I live with. I do not want to see them harmed by Covid-19 due to my foolishness in bringing it home.
In lieu of those adventures that I wish I could go on, I look to video games. It isn’t the same thing as feeling the wind in your hair while climbing over a mountain or taking in such amazing sights in a big city, but you might be able to come close to such an experience if you find the right game.
That is where Dear Esther comes in. The 2012 first-person exploration and adventure game developed by The Chinese Room, Robert Briscoe, and Curve Games follows the journey of a mysterious individual as they explore an island. As you explore the island, you discover more of a letter that the main character is reading which is addressed to a person named Esther.
The two things that make this game unique are the gorgeous landscape and the random generation that exists. This allows you to get lost within the visual beauty of the island and able to revisit the game with different experiences almost every time.
The other lovely thing about this game is that you can experience it on multiple different platforms. You can experience this peaceful adventure on PC, Mac, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and iOS. That means that you can experience it in its full glory on your tv or through the ease of your phone for a quick bit of rest and relaxation during your lunch break! With a price of only $9.99, it will not take a huge bite out of your wallet and it will be a lot cheaper than that vacation that you would rather be on if the pandemic wasn’t still raging on. While this virtual vacation may not take very long for your first trip around the island, I guarantee you that it will be worth every second!
Now, I don’t want to spoil much more about this game as I want you to enjoy it as much as I have, so please visit your favorite online video game shop and pick up Dear Esther: Landmark Edition. If you need more convincing, here is the trailer for the game that can give you a true taste of what to expect. Enjoy the tranquility of the island and story of Dear Esther!
