There are some games that we can’t wait to get our hands on but can sometimes let us down. This could be because they had a buggy launch, were poorly advertised, or had features that made us uncomfortable. Regardless, we always hope that these games can improve due to how much of an emphasis they have on us, or the fun that we can hope to get out of the game that we just spent our hard-earned cash on. Here is my list of the Top Ten Games that Need Attention in 2022.
1.) Dead by Daylight
I have a love-hate relationship with Dead by Daylight. It is a game that has brought me a lot of good times with my friends and has proven to be a rather fascinating game to play that is different from most that I get my hands on. However, there are numerous bugs and controversies that surround this game that are almost impossible to ignore.
The developers never seem to focus on these growing problems and instead focus on new content to add to the pile, which is nice, but isn’t what the game needs right now. There is some hope that the developers are planning to turn things around since they recently announced that they are working to restore the voice lines of Pinhead (aka The Cenobite) in the game ever since they were removed due to the NFT controversy that engulfed the Hellraiser Chapter.
2.)Battlefield 2042
While Battlefield launches are no stranger to bugs and raging players saying that the game is unplayable, it seems like Battlefield 2042 may have dug too deep of a hole for itself. When I first got the game, I hardly experienced any of these bugs. However, things began to go downhill when the early access period neared an end. By that point, the damage had already been done.
Things looked up when some videos from content creators were released on YouTube to spark more interest in the game, but the game still suffers from a lack of players in some game modes which doesn’t bode well for the longevity of the game. We will have to see if the Battlefield team can pull this game back into the light as they have with many of the previous Battlefield titles.
3.) Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
While this game has not technically been fully released since it is just in Early Access on Steam, I still count it as one that can be talked about on this list since anyone can play it. Bannerlord is a sequel to Mount & Blade: Warband, which is a game that I loved to death and played for an absurd amount of time.
This sequel has already shown a bunch of improvements compared to the previous title, however, it is also showing that it has a few pieces missing. One of those big pieces is the diplomacy mechanics, as there have been quite a few missing options from Warband and the dialogue system can sometimes feel clunky. I am not too worried about this title since it is in Early Access, so these things are somewhat expected.
4.) Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition
What can I say that has not already been said? This game was a disaster at launch with so much uproar from the GTA community that Rockstar had to issue an apology and offer refunds to everyone who purchase the game. With the game still being on the market at a whopping $60, it is safe to say that it is not a game that anyone will be picking up any time soon. However, Rockstar has a way of milking every drop out of a game if possible, so I would not be surprised if we end up seeing major updates that bring the trilogy up to the standards that the fans expect.
5.) Humankind
Humankind is a game that I have greatly enjoyed this past year! While it may not have been the “Civilization Killer” that some people were expecting it to be, it is a game that I believe poses a big challenge for the Sid Meier’s Civilization team as they work on Civilization VII.
This game could do with some more explaining as some of the game mechanics are difficult to understand. The game really requires a few sessions to even begin to understand the basics, but the developers are aware of this and are continuing to make those improvements. It will be interesting to see what DLCs come to Humankind and if they can truly square off against Civilization.
6.) Europa Universalis IV
For those who have been aware of it, Europa Universalis IV, otherwise known as EU4, has been having a bumpy road as of late with the DLCs that have been released. The most recent ones have not added as much to the game as some of the earlier DLCs and even the developers are aware of this. After the last few DLCs have been received with negative criticism from a majority of the community, the developers have commented that they hope to “do things differently.” We will have to see if they can retake the reigns of their content launches and bring the community back on their side.
7.) Hood: Outlaws & Legends
This is a game that I had very high hopes for. From the trailer and gameplay that the developers showed off, it seemed to be a game that was a Medieval Payday game with two teams going up against each other. However, when the game was released, it did not do well in the eyes of critics and players.
With a 6/10 on IGN and an overall 53% positive rating on Steam, it is clear to see that this game needs some tender love. Despite my hopes that this game could be brought up to the ideas that I had for it, this seems unlikely as the player base has mostly abandoned this game and some report that they can no longer complete a match.
8.) Marvel’s Avengers
Marvel’s Avengers has had a very bumpy road throughout its entire existence. From the artistic choices given to the gameplay to the numerous bugs at launch, the only thing that has kept this game slightly alive is the name recognition, but that can only take a game so far. The recent addition of the long-awaited Spider-Man was met with mixed opinions at best, with many people saying that the recent addition of Spider-Man to Fortnite was implemented better. I must say that the game has improved by cleaning up a good chunk of the bugs since launch, but it seems like they have not found the content that will bring back the community.
9.) Back 4 Blood
Back 4 Blood is a game that was on track to becoming a pretty good update to the zombie cooperative first-person shooter. Every patch seemed to bring the game closer and closer to the end goal. The only thing hindering them was the fact that they were recording everyone’s online gameplay audio.
However, things have taken a slight turn for the worst with this game since its parent company has been bought by Tencent. This has left a lot of players concerned about what the future of the game is since Tencent has been mired in a lot of controversy in the last few years. However, it was reported that the company behind Back 4 Blood would maintain its independence, so we will just have to wait and see.
10.) Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania
This game was one of the best remakes/remasters to come out in 2021! I have had a blast playing this game and it is worth almost every penny that I spent on it. However, since the launch Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania has received little in terms of additional content.
While there have been a few characters that have come out, there have been no new maps for the various modes and the developers have not talked about the one thing that fans have wanted since Super Monkey Ball Deluxe; Online Party Mode. Being able to play the races or baseball or any of the other Party Games with friends online would be absolutely amazing! Please SEGA! Do it for the fans! We will give you another five dollars if you really want it.
