Part of Phenixx Gaming’s mission statement is shining a light on accessibility in gaming. We’ve always wanted to try and make gaming a more accessible space by supporting accessibility where we can. Now, it seems that Sony Interactive Entertainment España and Aeternum Game Studios have brought accessibility to Aeterna Noctis, their 2D Metroidvania.

According to a press release from during our holiday break, (December 30th), to kick off the new year the first major update to Aeterna Noctis was released. This update provided a whole new mode for people who wanted a more accessible experience from the game. Here is what the press release says about the update.

After listening carefully to the community, Aeternum Game Studios decided to add a new game mode, for those players demanding a more accessible experience, plus other quality of life improvements. Aeterna Noctis now has two game modes. Aeterna is a more accessible experience focused on exploration and action while Noctis is the original, challenging experience. The studio has redesigned the levels for the Aeterna mode to make the difficulty curve less steep.

Also, the final bosses will have slightly less HP so players will be able to beat them more easily. Players will be able to switch between both modes without having to start a new game. The studio has also implemented other new features, such as adding more thrones to the map, as requested by the community and there are a number of bugs that have been solved.

Personally, I think that this sort of update is a very good thing. The more people that can play their game, the better off they are, and the more people are able to share in a cool experience. That’s what gaming should be, people coming together to share fun experiences and enjoy new adventures. I might never be an awesome warrior, but playing through games like Aeterna Noctis can make me feel like one.
