I’ve got to be honest with you, folks: this is uncharted territory for me. Some among our audience may know that I had precisely zero desire to use the Epic Games Store for the longest time. Heck, I’ve even not-so-subtly railed against that particular storefront in previous articles before I had my sudden change of heart. I’m not entirely accustomed to using Epic’s store quite yet, especially since it just added basic shopping cart functionality a matter of days ago at the time of writing. Even so, I know a worthwhile sale when I see one, and that’s what I’m here to tell you about today.
You see, as titled above, the Epic Games Store’s 2021 Holiday Sale is now live. What’s more, Epic has given all of its users a $10 USD coupon which can be used on any game that costs at least $14.99 USD, with or without discounts from the sale. I may be a die-hard Steam user at heart, but even I’ve got to hand it to Epic for this move. My Steam library would be significantly larger if Valve did anything similar to that strategy.
As an additional note, Epic seems to have begun giving away a free game every day for the foreseeable future rather than their usual one or two free games per week. Yesterday’s complimentary title was Shenmue III, as Keiran reported upon in an article of his own. I have no idea what sorts of games they’ll hand out during the remaining duration of the holiday sale, but it’s definitely something I suggest keeping an eye on just in case a title you want goes up for free. We’ll be covering that on our Twitter account as well (linked below)
I’m afraid I don’t have much to offer you in the way of fully-fledged game recommendations while this sale is active. At the time of writing, the only game I’ve played on the Epic Store is Darkest Dungeon II, though I do own a few other noteworthy titles I’ve been wanting to play. I just haven’t had the time to get around to those yet. However, I can at least tell you the current prices of a handful of games that have caught my eye in case you’re looking for discounts on them.
The aforementioned Darkest Dungeon II is currently going for $26.99 USD. A ten-percent discount may not sound like much, but don’t forget you can always use your coupon on it if you’d like to grab this title. Chivalry II will run you $26.79 USD right now. Hitman III will set you back $23.99, and lastly, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Standard Edition is on sale for $29.99 USD. For what it’s worth, I’ll have an Early Access preview article on Darkest Dungeon II going up sometime during the next few weeks, and I plan to review most of the other titles I mentioned at some point in the future as well.
There you have it, folks! The Epic Games Store’s Holiday Sale will remain active until Thursday, January 6th, 2022. I suspect it will probably conclude at 8 AM Pacific Time on that date judging by precedent. If you’re so inclined, do feel free to let your fellow readers and I know what (if anything) you intend to add to your library during this sale extravaganza!
