Say what you will about The Sims 4, its countless expansions and remedial updates to fix some of the issues we all had on its launch several years ago haven’t entirely fixed the game. Instead, we’ve seen the emergence of the Sims-like. This would be a broad gene, given it encapsulates playing god with a house full of sociopaths, as well as, the god that can type “motherload” faster than anyone and do what millennials can only wish of doing, build a big house. One of those Sims-likes we saw earlier this year, oh how I do love talking about the Wholesome Directs, and this week we got a little sneak peek into the character creator.

Paralives is that slightly stylized take on the Sims gameplay that made all the world’s troubles fade away for a moment during that wonderful showcase in July. Now, they’ve shown off a little bit of the, I am hesitant to say, Sims 4-like creation-suite. Maybe best described as a mix of both Sims 3 and Sims 4, we’ve got a glimpse into just how detailed you can get with your people, called “Parafolks” it seems. The video over on the game’s YouTube channel shows a similar drag, push, and slide style we’ve seen from the Sims 4 of molding the body, but you also get sliders.

Placing tattoos is free, allowing you to scale them and move them about the body part. Something we’ve all been yelling about since the release of the latest Sims game has been the textures and limited color palettes available on every object. Paralives also shows off the ability to do the full Sims 3 color wheel with what looks like a few different textures. The question I will ask is, will we be able to add textures via Steam workshop support? We don’t know exactly, though as far as the press release notes there will be user-created content, so one can hope.

Thus far, Paralives‘ creative suite is very flexible and impressive. Taking the granularity and the freedom of both latest creation suites we’ve seen in EA’s attempts at the same thing, I’m floored by purely how precise Paralives is getting to what I’ve wanted for over a decade. Finally, I can make my gender-bending heterochromia tattooed god that’s several feet tall. In all seriousness, I think we’re all just going to make David Bowie and be happy with it. However, we’ll have to continue to wait for a release date, as Paralives is in that teasing period on Steam with a “TBA” release date.
