As the famed professional wrestler turned color commentator, Jerry Lawler, often says, “it’s good to be the king.” Now, thanks to the efforts of indie development studio Xobermon LLC, there’s a new game on Steam Early Access that will allow you to experience one version of what it’s like to be king (or queen) for yourself. The game in question is entitled Noble Fates, and its developers describe it as a “fantasy kingdom management simulator.”

According to the press release from which I obtained all the information I’ll be relaying to you within this article, Xobermon LLC states that Noble Fates is “driven by intelligent characters with a rich simulation of opinions and memories of your deeds.” The studio goes on to provide a few examples of they mean, stating:

Mortals in Noble Fates have diverse opinions and long-term memories where they remember the interactions that impacted them the most. Did you butcher their friend? Steal their supplies? Tend their wounds? Honor them at a great feast? Make them eat human flesh? They remember. They talk about it. Everyone reacts.” For what it’s worth, I personally find this concept quite intriguing. I’m not necessarily used to NPCs in games remembering and reacting to what I’ve done to them or for them outside of a select few titles.

Beyond that, the press release lists a fair few features present within Noble Fates that have caught my attention. More specifically, you apparently have the choice of either interacting with your kingdom directly from a third-person perspective or issuing orders from the sky above your empire. Furthermore, the press release claims you can break open so-called “Demonic Carbuncles to take on endless waves of demons with scaling rewards.”

There’s also the ever-present threat of being unprepared for winter hanging over your head, though the game not-so-subtly mentions that “there’s always cannibalism” if normal preparations don’t go to plan. I must say, I’m fairly compelled to see how Noble Fates’ development shakes out as it continues to spend time in Steam Early Access. If you want to check it out for yourself, you can grab a copy for 20% off (a total of $19.99 USD) until Wednesday, January 5th, 2022.
