At the beginning of the month, it was announced that Aliens: Fireteam Elite would be joining the catalog of games available with Xbox Game Pass on December 14th. This release also coincided with the second free update, “Season 2: Point Defense”.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a Co-Op Third-Person Shooter that places you and up to two others as colonial marines in the famous Alien universe. It features six playable classes, four campaigns, and a huge variety of Alien enemies to fight through in waves, Left 4 Dead style. While Alien: Isolation followed the horror and helpless feeling of the film Alien, this is most certainly following the tense and action-filled sequel that was Aliens.

If you feel like this game came out pretty recently, your instinct would be correct. Aliens: Fireteam Elite launched just under three months ago on August 24th. Response to the game was average, albeit plenty of people did seem to have fun playing through it with friends. A review of the game by one of our staff members can be read here.

Since its release, the game has seen two big updates. The first, or “Season 1: Phalanx”, came out two weeks after launch. It added the Phalanx class alongside some new weapons and cosmetics. The second season update has added new weapons and attachments, cosmetics, challenge cards, lifetime stats, and a new game mode called Point Defense that plays exactly how it sounds.

Although the game saw a large decrease in players after the first two months, both updates have been appealing enough for players to spend some time in it again. With the game now available to both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass users, it’s sure to see a decent bump in people trying it out. Even better, crossplay between Windows Store players and Xbox has been added with the season 2 update. It’s not the full crossplay that people were hoping for, but at the very least it may provide for a healthy and preserving player base in the Xbox ecosystem for new players.

Samuel (he/him) has been obsessed with video games since he was a kid watching bumbling zombies shuffle down a hallway in Resident Evil 20+ years ago (it's debatable if he should have seen a mature-rated game at that age but he's personally okay with it). His hobby of writing and talking people's ears off about video games has always felt like a perfect match. Feel free to let him talk your ear off on Twitter!: https://twitter.com/xxsammorenoxx
