We’re all aware of the supply chain issues going on. It has led to all manner of things, from shortages of parts for PS5’s to delays in various items being available. Now, it seems that Microids is feeling the shortage in a way we haven’t seen all that often. Beyond a Steel Sky’s console release is now being affected, both physically and digitally.

Beyond a Steel Sky was released on PC back in July of 2020 and is the sequel to Beneath a Steel Sky from 1994. Robert Foster returns to Union City 10 years after the previous game. He is on the hunt for a missing child, in a story that examines how an AI would handle the directive of making people happy.

Due to worldwide logistical issues and constraints beyond our control, the game’s release date had to be postponed on some platforms in certain territories,” Microids commented in the announcement to the press. This announcement means that in the UK, the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and physical Nintendo Switch versions launch on December 7th. The digital version of the Nintendo Switch release will also launch early in the UK on November 30th.

In North America, the digital Switch version will release on December 7th, while all retail (and other digital) versions will release on December 14th. In Australia and New Zealand, all retail versions will release on December 17th, while all digital versions release on November 30th.

In the rest of the world, the Nintendo Switch retail version launches on December 2nd, while all other platforms (digital and retail) release on November 30th. Microids also apologized for the delay, stating “We deeply apologize for the inconvenience for players eager to get their hands on the game, and we thank you for your understanding.”

So, if you’ve had your eye on Beyond a Steel Sky for a while, you won’t have to wait too much longer for the chance to play it, either via retail or digital releases. I’ll admit that I’m a bit interested in it myself, but I don’t mind the delay, especially if it is out of the developer’s control.
