Back in May of 2018, a Kickstarter campaign for a game called Steamboat Billy caught my eye. Now, three years later (with a name change) people can finally enjoy Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. That’s right y’all! Rainbow Billy was released on all platforms yesterday!

Now, for those of you who aren’t aware of what Rainbow Billy is, here is what the official press release has to say. “Join Billy and a colorful cast of characters in a wholesome, family-friendly, and accessible 2.5D adventure platformer featuring RPG, creature-collecting, and puzzle elements. When the evil Leviathan drains the World of Imagination of its colors, it’s up to Billy and their crew to use the power of empathy and acceptance to make friends, discover new experiences, and help bring color back to the once-bright land!

Chris Chancey, CEO, and President at Manavoid Entertainment commented on the launch, stating: “Rainbow Billy is a hopepunk, universal coming-of-age story that explores relatable themes like empathy, compassion, inclusion, and self-identity. This has been such a deeply personal journey for us as a team to create, and we’re so excited to finally share it with people of all kinds around the world!

Back in 2018, I was pulled in by seeing the classic animation aesthetic, mixed with a vibrant use of color and adorable characters. That same allure has not only been maintained since then, but as the game has grown and developed I’ve been more and more eager to sink my teeth in. I think kids and adults alike are going to have a field day with Rainbow Billy’s adventure, and you can bet that there will be a review of Rainbow Billy here on Phenixx Gaming once I sift through a bit more of my backlog of reviews.

If you haven’t already, go give Rainbow Billy a look on your preferred platform of choice. A new studio like Manavoid Entertainment can use all the help and attention they can get. Supporting Indie studios is important to us, and without them, games like Rainbow Billy wouldn’t exist.
