With the stable popularity in the SCP series, it’s no wonder why there are so many fan games based in the world of SCP. Before diving into all these different games, let me quickly summarize what SCP is for those that don’t know. The SCP series is a fan-made wiki that contains hundreds of thousands of fan-submitted stories revolving around the Secure Contain Protect Foundation.

The premise of all the short stories is they are supposed to be seen as research logs of the foundation as they try to study each of these individual objects or SCPs. Each SCP is given a class based on how dangerous they are, as well as a backstory for how they were found, and a series of logs detailing tests done on the SCP.

Since its creation, SCP has been a very popular topic. With its popularity, it was not long until fans started to bring the world of SCP to life with media content. One of the first popular SCP games was titled simply, SCP-Containment Breach. The game was officially released in 2012 and involved playing as a D-class personal, trying to escape the SCP facility, while SCPs broke free and were running rampant around the facility.

Since the game came out, many other SCP fan games have been created, but very few have stood the test of time as well as SCP-Containment Breach. The most recent popular SCP game has been SCP: Secret Laboratory. This game featured a similar premise to Containment Breach but added a multiplayer aspect with different factions for the players to control. It even allowed players to control SCP and hunt down other players trying to escape.

Now, why am I linking this series to Control? Well to me, Control seems to be borrowing the premise of the SCP world and putting their own spin on it. The game features a bunch of other-worldly objects that are being contained and studied by a secret government organization. The main draw for the game is that the player harnesses the power given by the objects to fight back against whatever is attacking the organization.

The game also shares some of the absurdity that can be found across the SCP franchise. While most of the comical moments come from the side content in the game, such as the collectible videos found throughout the world, some of the extra missions to obtain the Objects of Power have some humorous moments. A personal favorite is when you must fight your way through an office overflowing with antique clocks. The clocks are spilling out of most doorways and are piled across the floor.

If you enjoy the SCP series I highly recommend looking into Control. If you want to read more about the game, you can find our review for it here.

Enjoyer of almost all genres of video games, but a deep-rooted love for FPS and MMOs. I've been playing video games for as long as I can remember and enjoy them most of the time. I just want to help spread the news about games to as many people as will listen.
