Longtime readers of ours may remember that late last year, I wrote a review of a delightful Visual Novel developed and published by Toge Productions entitled Coffee Talk. This title sees you work as the sole barista of your very own coffee shop in a more fantastical version of Seattle, Washington. Given the game’s status as a Visual Novel, it focuses much more heavily on the “talk” part of its title rather than the “coffee” portion. You are still tasked with correctly brewing whatever sort of hot beverage your customers happen to order though.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve played Coffee Talk and think you could go for a second helping of its lovely version of Seattle and all the interesting customers you’ve met there. If you fall into that category, I’m pleased to report that I have some good news for you. Toge Productions announced earlier this week that sometime in 2022, Coffee Talk will receive a standalone expansion known as Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly. I’m afraid that “sometime in 2022” is currently the most concrete release window I can provide, however.

Given that your clientele in the first episode of Coffee Talk consists of fairies, elves, orcs, vampires, werewolves, succubi, and several other walks of life, I must say I’m quite excited to see how Toge Productions might incorporate more varieties of mythological patrons who will be visiting your coffee shop in Hibiscus & Butterfly. I definitely consider myself quite the sucker for this sort of thing, and I’ve long thought that Coffee Talk got quite a few things right in that regard.

On a final note, Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly now has its own dedicated page on the Steam Store. If you’re interested, you can add this upcoming standalone expansion to your wishlist here. I should also mention that if you haven’t played the original Coffee Talk, it has a free playable demo on its own Steam Store page, and it also happens to be discounted by 30% through September 7th, 2021.

David Sanders is, at his core, a man who's just trying to get through his game backlog before the heat death of the universe, and yet can't seem to stop adding to said game backlog. He greatly enjoys many different varieties of games, particularly several notable RPGs and turn-based strategy titles. When he's not helping to build or plan computers for friends, he can usually be found gaming on his personal machine or listening to an audiobook to unwind.
