Back in May, I covered the earliest information we knew about Midautumn, a new Hades-esque Roguelike focusing on Asian diaspora culture and defeating evil spirits. Yesterday during Devcom, a developer conference leading into Gamescom later this week, a few announcements about Midautumn’s Kickstarter came out. Here is what we know about the Kickstarter campaign’s release as well as the other announcements made during the event.
The first major announcement was that Midautumn’s Kickstarter will launch on September 3rd, which means that during its duration it will also coincide with the real-world Mid-Autumn festival on September 21st. Additionally, it was announced that alongside the Kickstarter campaign, a new animated trailer and a pre-alpha demo will release, giving people the chance to give feedback during the Kickstarter campaign.
Here is a bit more information via the press release. “Midautumn is a supernatural game about blasting evil spirits, gentrification, and Asian diaspora culture.
You play as Robin Lam, a recent college grad with no clear direction who has resorted to crashing with their Grandmother in the fictional town of Nambo Quay, California. In exchange, Robin’s Grandma reveals to Robin that the Spirit World is real, its entrance is in the basement, and Robin is strong-armed into being its latest protector.
When you’re not blasting spirits in the ever-shifting rooms of the Spirit World, the town of Nambo Quay is filled with a cast of colorful, larger-than-life characters for you to forge bonds with. You’ll have hundreds of unique story events to learn about what’s really going on in this cozy, mysterious town.
The game’s Kickstarter demo will allow players to toggle the amount of damage the player takes so even players who are intimidated by rogue-lites can still play and enjoy the narrative. This pre-alpha demo will be an early look at the game’s opening chapter, designed to allow players to give early feedback during the Kickstarter campaign.”
Aside from appearing at Devcom this week, the creators of Midautumn will make appearances during the Kickstarter campaign at PAX 10, Game Devs of Color Expo, and the next Steam Next Fest. If you’re as excited about Midautumn as I am, check out the Kickstarter page and request to be notified when it goes live. Additionally, you can follow the progress of the campaign on Twitter and wishlist the game on Steam.
