I will never understand all of this nonsense with licenses and games, which is the only explanation for this news as far as I can understand. Yesterday, it was announced via the Forza Motorsport blog that the latest edition, Forza Motorsport 7, is on its last tank of oxygen in the rolling old-folks home in the sky. Ok, the metaphor doesn’t entirely work, but it gets my point across. They are sticking a bullet in the back of the head of 2017’s Forza Motorsport release because a good thing can’t stay around for long in this world of “digital.”
September 15th is the date you’ll have to buy the game before it is delisted, otherwise, you’ll have missed your chance. However, there is a little quirk to how all of this works. Xbox offers one of the best deals in all of gaming, I will die on this hill until someone comes up with a better one, and the game has previously/currently appears on Xbox Game Pass. Players playing through that system who may have bought DLC to play, but not the game itself might be worried. To save you the call for alarm and calling foul on the whole deal, there is a workaround that Xbox is offering those who have previously bought DLC.
“For any Xbox Game Pass players who previously purchased DLC for the game, but not the game itself, we have good news!” the update from Xbox points out. “You will receive a token for the game through the Xbox Message Center so that you can continue playing Forza Motorsport 7.” This token will give you the game “for free” as a result of your previous purchase. Unless there is a system set up to prevent it that is not noted, it may be a cheap way to get the game in the next few days. Those eligible for a token should get one by Tuesday, August 2nd, but if you don’t receive one, you are advised to check in with Xbox Support. Tokens will have to be used by September 15th, 2023.
Of course, this is not the first delisting we’ve covered here at Phenixx Gaming of a Forza game, with last year’s delisting of Forza Horizon 3. However, at least there is a newer game available between that one and the new one releasing later this year. The latest Forza Motorsport, simply called Forza Motorsport, has yet to be given a release date and we’ve not seen much in the way of what it has to offer either. Though, if you are concerned that the online functions and Rivals esport events will cease support, don’t worry, both are being supported and will still be accessible once the delisting happens in September.
