Battlefield One. You might have heard of this thing that happened, just over one-hundred-years-ago now called World War One (Yes, but what do you mean one?). It was a war that was horrible and for no real reason other than a worldwide dustup, with numbers reaching close to 20-million dead (military and civilian) it is one of the most depressing things possible. So, let’s make a fun shooty-bang game set in that and sell it for profit. Don’t worry, I’m not going to do the whole commentary I did with Verdun.
Yes, the series about putting one group on one side of the large room and the other side on the other is available to pick up with your Prime Gaming subscription. You will have to connect your Twitch/Amazon to EA’s Origin, but at this point, you’ve connected everything else to something or other, so you might as well do this one too. See, the reason I’m not as down on Battlefield 1‘s semi-titular setting as I am the proclaimed authentic French setting is that Battlefield lost its ability to be taken seriously a long time ago.
I mean, in Battlefield 1 you have dogfights, which I found out is hard to do in a basement; People think you are making dogs fight, for some stupid reason, when you say you are heading down to do a bit of dogfighting. I didn’t say the jokes would stop, now, did I? Anyway, you have dogfights, automatic weapons, and a whole host of other, non-WW1 weapons or tactics on hand. I mean, you do get to ride into battle on a horse, on a beach shouting “I’ll get you, Jerry!” Which when you do that on a public beach, it is somehow frowned upon. That’s the last time I am going to Santa Monica Pier.
Joking aside, Yes, it is still the problem I have with Verdun, it is not taking itself too seriously either. As I said when I reviewed Ravenfield and undoubtedly Battlefront II (the good one) too a while back, sometimes you just want a large battle in a game. Not setpieces, as has become commonplace in recent years. I mean proper big battles that Battlefield is known for. I mean, the next one is basically Just Cause 5. Anyway, you’ll want to be quick, you only have until August the 4th to pick up Battlefield 1.
