It has been just over seven months since the mess that was the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Some say it works moderately fine, and others have had a less than pleasant experience. The latter type of people have not only seen minor bugs, but on consoles such as the base PS4 and Xbox One, players found textures unable to load and generally, the game was unplayable. It is safe to say, the response to the game’s launch was not all what CD Projekt Red had hoped for: with lawsuits, consumer rights bureaus looking into them, and the game being pulled from the PlayStation Store.

While some, such as the PlayStation Store returned the game to storefronts recently, Microsoft has been more hesitant. Ultimately, they (and Best Buy) would only offer players who were unhappy with their purchase an unusual offering, a full refund. They also added a performance warning, noting how it may not work as intended. Well, this past week saw a major 30GB update for those on consoles, with the patch notes stating, “Numerous crash fixes in animations, UI, scene, physics and gameplay systems.” There were also notes of a reduction in crashes due to: “Memory optimizations and memory management improvements in various systems.”

With the return to the PlayStation store happening on Monday, and the latest patch aimed at reducing performance issues arriving, Microsoft has announced an end to the refund policy. Starting from the 6th of July, whether you are an existing or new purchaser of the game, you’ll be returned to the standard returns policy Microsoft has. You see, unlike most of the other policies you might encounter, Microsoft states: “All sales of Digital Game Products are considered final.” However, a review of the circumstances may be conducted to determine if a refund is, as they put it, “eligible.” It is a strange policy, as many other storefronts such as GOG, Steam, Epic, and many others, offer adaptations of the “no questions asked” refund.
