It would seem that the fates are content to keep giving me opportunities to publish my ecstatic ramblings about Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. The Platinum Edition of Civ 6 is currently headlining June 2021’s Humble Choice bundle, and as if that weren’t prominent enough, there’s now some fresh news about a forthcoming edition of the title. If you’ve followed my written work here on Phenixx Gaming for the past year or so, you’re well aware that Civilization VI has a season pass, known officially as the New Frontier Pass.
However, you may also know that the New Frontier Pass and the six DLC packs which comprise it are not part of any “collections” of the game and its DLC, such as the aforementioned Platinum Edition. Well, I’m pleased to report that this has changed as of today in the wake of what Firaxis announced on their website yesterday. That announcement stated proudly that the Civilization VI anthology will be released on digital storefronts beginning today.
This new “Anthology” contains the base edition of Civilization VI, all of its Digital Deluxe Edition DLC, its Rise & Fall and Gathering Storm expansions, as well as the entirety of the New Frontier Pass. Firaxis was quick to note in their blog post that the Anthology is composed of over $150 USD worth of content when nothing contained within it is discounted.
However, if you want to pick up the Anthology but you find yourself a bit strapped for cash at the moment, don’t worry. Firaxis also announced that the Civilization VI Anthology will have a special introductory price of $49.99 USD. That price will remain in effect from today through Thursday, June 24th, 2021. Coincidentally, if certain leaks are proven true, June 24th just so happens to be the day that this year’s Steam Summer Sale is scheduled to start. I can’t help but wonder if the Anthology will be discounted at all due to the sale, but I suppose time will tell.
On a final note, something I didn’t consider until I was nearly finished writing this article is that the existence of the Civilization VI Anthology could easily spell the end of new content for the game. After all, I think it would be a bit silly for Firaxis to release a collection they call an “anthology,” and then turn around and release a third expansion and/or second season pass. Heck, for all I know maybe Firaxis and 2K will have something momentous hidden up their sleeves that they might reveal in a few days when E3 rolls around.
