Well, E3 might be happening in just over two weeks from now, but everyone wants to get ahead of the curve with their own little showcases and anniversaries. On Thursday the 27th, there will be several showcases for everything from Horizon Forbidden West, Sonic’s 30th anniversary, Dragon Quest‘s 35th anniversary, and a Dying Light 2 announcement too. A stacked Thursday only two weeks before Kickoff Live with a Ken doll, and just a little bit ahead of E3 too.

So let’s get the oldest one out of the way early, mostly because it requires translating. Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii sent out the tweet above on Sunday, saying (roughly): “This Thursday Dragon Quest will celebrate its 35th anniversary. As you may know, this is a special day […] In the broadcast, we will announce a lot of things […] of course, that game too.” Having only played one game in the whole 35-years of Dragon Quest, I don’t know what is being referenced when it comes to “that game too.” One could speculate possibly a remaster of something in the main series, or a new game. We’ll find out on the 27th, or rather if you’re in the US, late on the 26th.

Next up is the next one to be put in the retirement home at the ripe old age of 30. Sonic will be having a bit of a run-around on the 27th, and I do mean the 27th this time, at 9 AM Pacific Time and noon Eastern Time (5 PM in the UK). The Sonic Team plans to show any first-looks at new projects, partnerships, and upcoming events during the live stream on Thursday. With the recent leak of the second movie’s plot, and the constant rumors of upcoming games, one could assume there will be something for all Sonic fans on Thursday. I’m just hoping for Sonic Mania 2 and we get to nuke everyone who made Sonic ’06 from orbit. We’ll probably see some remasters too.

The last State of Play featuring a very Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart showcase might have also featured a couple of other games. The next one announced will feature Horizon Forbidden West, yet doesn’t seem to have a note for any other game in the showcase. Also announced for Thursday with a countdown at 9 AM Pacific Time, the showcase proper kicks off at 2 PM Pacific (10 PM UK, 5 PM Eastern) is set to have about 14-minutes of “in-game action featuring […] Aloy.” Arguably it does seem to be quite a large build to only 14-minutes of something that Sony have twisted themselves so much to not say “gameplay” when talking directly about that 14-minutes of footage. Nonetheless, the 20-minute showcase will show what is the next big thing from Sony on the PS5.

The final announcement is, of course, for Dying Light 2; the sequel to that game I keep swearing profusely at every time I’m out at night while playing. Well, Techland decided to put out a short clip asking “Are you dying 2 know more?” Further details of the game will be revealed in a live stream over on the developer’s Twitch. The times for this stream are noon Pacific Time, 3 PM Eastern, and 8 PM in the UK. Of course, earlier this year we saw a leaked collector’s edition appear following the studio teasing big things coming, and later they would go on to say, “we announced the game too early.”
