We recently covered Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, when a new trailer was released back in February. I’m really interested in seeing this remastered, redesigned version of Monster World IV on Nintendo Switch. Finally, ININ Games and STUDIOARTDINK have announced the release date (physical and digital) on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World will be coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in Europe, North America, and Australia on May 28th, 2021. We don’t have much longer to wait y’all! I’m so excited! It is important to note, however, that physical/retail versions of the game will also come with the original version of Monster World IV, without all the updated graphics, etc.
Digital versions won’t have this and no word has been given on whether it will be made available at any point in the future for digital sale. After having reviewed the original Shantae on Switch, I think it would be interesting to see some of the original Monster World releases come to the platform. However, I can understand that not being entirely feasible in every game’s case.
Here is what the press release has to say about the pricing of both versions: “The retail editions for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 will be available for €39.99 / $39.99 / £34.99 and include the original Monster World IV exclusively.
The digital Switch and PS4 versions, by STUDIOARTDINK, will be available in the EU and US through the online stores for €34.99 / $34.99 / £31.49 (GBP to be confirmed). Furthermore, the Steam version will release a month later on June 29th. The game will be available for €34.99 / $34.99 / £31.49 (GBP to be confirmed) on Steam. The digital versions won’t include the original game. “
Also, here is what the press release has to say about Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World. “Asha, with her companion, Pepelogoo, must free the four spirits confined by evil forces whose origin she discovers throughout her journey. While the story remains true to the original 1994 game it is a full remake of Monster World IV, with cell-shaded 3D graphics and 2D gameplay that stays close to the beloved original, including enhanced visuals and refined play content.”
I am very excited to play Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World. It is beautifully drawn and designed, with colorful levels and all sorts of interesting visual designs. We won’t have much longer to wait though, so hopefully, May 28th gets here quick!
