It’s been a while since we’ve had a positively stacked month of high-profile game releases. Thankfully, May 2021 is packed to the brim with several titles we’ve been waiting a very long time for. With a little something for everyone, I’d wager any gaming fan has something to feast their time upon as summer rounds the corner. Here’s a look at three big titles coming in May 2021, along with a short list of others. There’s a fair bit, from action titles to RPGs and long-awaited remasters/collections!
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
Mass Effect holds a special place in my heart. I have fond memories exploring planets in the janky Mako in the first, doing companion missions to assemble the perfect team in 2, and sinking tons of time in 3‘s multiplayer with a bountiful amount of weapons/loadouts. The Legendary Edition brings about a fresh coat of paint and mechanical improvements to combat, but I’m most excited to play the wealth of DLC that was seemingly always full-priced. This could be a huge redemption for BioWare if it goes off without a hitch on May 14th.
Resident Evil: Village
While Lady Dimitrescu has been the talk of the internet for months, we’ll be stalked by her in the eighth mainline entry in the Resident Evil franchise. It retains the first-person perspective and protagonist Ethan Winters from Resident Evil VII. The survival aspect has been emphasized for this title, as Ethan has already survived massive abominations. It will be a thrill to see the next-gen visuals in arguably the biggest release for the generation’s perennial year in Village on May 7th.
Biomutant
After several years in development and a few delays, Biomutant looks to release on May 25th. A game poised to please action-RPG-open-world gamers, the combat incorporates martial arts and should make for some intense third-person combat. With a focus on freedom within crafting, customization, and more, Biomutant has ambitions where the sky is the limit. We’ll see if that extra development time pays off come later this month.
Other releases to note are Subnautica: Below Zero which spent a whopping two years in early access ahead of its release on the 14th, the Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster dropping on the 25th, Miitopia coming out on May 21st, and several more. There’s no doubt that this month is going to be a joy to embrace, whether you’re looking forward to a big AAA release or an indie sleeper hit!
