I never thought that this would end up happening. Since the release of Super Mario Party back in 2018, people have been asking for a multiplayer mode for the title. Now Nintendo has finally announced that you can play the game with friends that aren’t sitting in the same room as you. Full online functionality for the board game mode, the 2 versus 2-mode, and 70 of the game’s minigames.
If I’m quite honest, I never expected Nintendo to update the game at all. The love for Super Mario Party from the side of the developers has been barely there and it’s been a while since we got any sort of update on the title. I’m not sure if Nintendo decided to work on this update because fewer people are buying it due to the pandemic or just because they finally decided to listen to the players after two and a half years of them whining and begging for an online mode to be added to the game.
Whatever the case, you can play the game with friends starting now. The update has already been released so you can start playing Super Mario Party with your friends, as long as all of you own the game and are subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online. While I’m not the biggest fan of this game due to a sheer lack of content and boards that are way too small for my own taste, it’s definitely a nice game to play on occasion, with friends and family close by or now with those on the other side of the globe.
