Dementia is a difficult topic to discuss, not just in art, but in real life. However, the developers at 3-Fold Games have partnered with medical professionals in order to do just that. In conjunction with mental health charity Gaming the Mind, 3-Fold Games is releasing Before I Forget on consoles very soon. It released last year on PC, but now console gamers will be able to experience it as well.

Before we get into the release date announcement, here is a bit of information about Before I Forget. “Developed with support from medical professionals at Gaming the Mind, Before I Forget is a short exploration game about dementia, where players are invited to experience the world through the eyes of Sunita – a brilliant woman with early onset Alzheimer’s.

In this BAFTA-nominated experience, players interact with objects to uncover the mystery of Sunita’s past, navigate her unravelling world, and piece together the remnants of a life well lived.

Co-Founders of 3-Fold Games, Chella Ramanan and Claire Morwood have explained that bringing Before I Forget to Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, is all meant to expand the game’s audience, stating:

We are both interested in exploring the possibilities of what games can be, what stories they tell and how they tell them. Before I Forget is a niche, narrative game about an older, Indian woman with dementia, so to share space with amazing AAA experiences means players we may not normally reach can enjoy a moment with Sunita.

On April 29th, Before I Forget will release on Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles. It has already released on PC to critical acclaim and has been nominated this year for a BAFTA award. I am very excited to see Before I forget come to consoles, as this topic is something more people need to discuss and experience in art.
