The last few weeks, there have been rumors going around that Square Enix might sell to some larger companies, and I was one of many people worried about that actually happening. Square Enix is a company I have a lot of faith in, and them being bought by a company like Microsoft could mean that they might continue on in the way they have been in recent years. While the Japanese publisher known for its JRPGs like the Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts-series has been going through some stuff; they have always been rather transparent about what they’re working on. I don’t think there’s been a single Square Enix release which I didn’t enjoy playing.
The rumors about the company being up for sale have been shut down rather quickly by the people at Square Enix themselves, as part of a statement given to Bloomberg. The company says that they “do not consider selling off the company or any part of its businesses, nor have we received any offer from any third party to acquire the company or any part of its businesses […]”. I’m relieved to hear that the company seems to be doing well, which is also proven by the fact that the shares for the company’s stock rose by around 14%. This is likely where the rumors that had emerged recently came from.
With this big relief remains the anticipation for some of Square Enix’s upcoming games, like NEO: The World Ends with You, Final Fantasy XVI and of course the continuation of the Final Fantasy VII Remake along with the mobile games set in Midgar. That doesn’t even take into account the continuing development of Outriders, a game with a more than difficult launch. I have to give some praise to the company for its transparency regarding the issues that have been coming up with this game, as well as the speed at which they’ve been fixing them.
