I don’t envy the communications and PR team at CD Projekt Red right now. As Cyberpunk 2077 updates continue to creep out at a painstakingly slow pace, the company also has to look ahead. That means new games in their long-running series The Witcher. While a few spin-off games are reportedly in the works, we also know an update to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to next-gen consoles. As a matter of fact, we even know more now: it’s coming in the second half of 2021.

You might not love the way the Cyberpunk controversy played out, but The Witcher 3‘s legacy can’t be impacted by another game’s faults. Wild Hunt is a masterpiece and it’d be great to get more time with the game. Switch owners have a portable version that’s quite good given the console’s limitations. Now, next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners can experience the game in a new way as well. The upgrades are likely to make the most of these consoles and give the best experience possible.

I’m not one to overstate how much I like a game just for the sheer fact that everyone’s tastes vary. That said, I’d recommend The Witcher 3 to just about any fan of action RPGs. It’s fun getting a chance to revisit games in a new light, and while the next-gen upgrade won’t offer new content, it will look incredible on these next-gen consoles.
