Price may just be the biggest obstacle when I decide on purchasing a video game. Over the past five years, the number of new games I’ve personally spent $60 on is 2. Barring Nintendo, the vast majority of video games will gradually sink in price or take part in sales, typically based on early sales numbers over all things. So, why is it that Yakuza: Like a Dragon, a critically-acclaimed, well-selling game, is now in the $20 range just 3 months removed from its US release?

There’s a few things to consider. First, Yakuza titles always release in their native Japan a considerable amount of time before a Western release. In Like a Dragon‘s case, it hit Japanese shelves in January of last year, before coming to the West in November on the Xbox Series X/S launch day. In addition, a recent Sega sales report has given praise to the performance of this title, despite noting that it’s “a niche franchise”.

One would assume that if a game is not selling well, it’d merit a drop in price to entice interested consumers to pull the trigger on their purchase. While Yakuza: Like a Dragon didn’t even crack the top 20 in its November release month, Sega was still pleased with the numbers. I’ve followed CheapAssGamer and seen the price of the Xbox version (which can be played on One, Series X, and S) trickle down from ~$40 to as low as $23.78 currently on Amazon.

On all accounts, this is a steal of a deal. The game currently holds a 97% positive rating in the “Overwhelmingly Positive” range on Steam and received rave reviews from critics despite a change in genre. Whether you have the newest generation of consoles or are still holding on to your Xbox One, this is a great entry point to the series. The rest of the series is easy to experience on Xbox Game Pass, which recently received the Remastered Collection. If you’ve been on the fence, give it a go today!
