Dreams (PS4) Down to $9.99, Still a Blast

Back in November, I did a piece on my first sitting with Dreams, Media Molecule’s 2020 title that seemingly went under the radar of a lot of players after its release. I knew once I got this game that I’d have ample reason to come back to it, because there’d only be more to experience thanks to the dedicated creators working with the game’s intuitive creation suite. Well, I popped it back in today, and I made the right choice in doing so.

After jumping back in, I decided to check out the trending section of creations. My eyes gravitated towards one of the first results: an adventure with Waluigi. I was conditioned from my first session of Dreams to expect a 2 or 3 minute goofy game, yet I couldn’t have been more wrong. What ensued was a 30+ minute platforming riot that featured Sans, Ronald McDonald, Thanos, and more. I was in tears laughing and had my gaming skills tested in the final screen, jumping with pinpoint precision for minutes. It’s an instant gaming memory that I won’t soon shake.

What’s wild was that creation was a diamond in the rough; it only had 9 thumbs ups! Even when I come across something suboptimal, it’s only 30-60 seconds used. Imagine how many minutes, even hours, have been lost in games to players who got stuck or faced an impossible boss. Dreams doesn’t waste your time, and with the right search terms and a mind open to imagination, there’s so much fun to be had.

Dreams is now down to its historic low at retailers. In the past, it’s only ever gone down to $19.99, but now, $9.99 will nab you a game that is only getting more and more content as time goes on. In fact, it may even see a surge in creations now that it’s at a price where more people can play it! Whether you want to browse thousands upon thousands of player-made games or want a strong tool to build your own, Dreams is a fantastic time-sink.
