Ah, the mid-2000s, when you could make grossly inappropriate jokes about things that 20-somethings would never touch with a ten-foot bargepole again in their lives. It honestly surprises me that the Destroy All Humans! series is meant to be a cult classic. It seems like everyone I know/knew has played it or owned it at some point in their life. It got a sequel after all, three of them, in fact. Not bad for a “cult classic” with only a four-year lifespan in it, huh?
Well, it looks as if we’re going to repeat history again, following the release of the Destroy All Humans! remake of 2020, there is more to come of the series. In a recently released trailer by the publisher THQ Nordic promoting a midweek sale, the studio may be teasing what is coming next. I’ll suck the tension out of that line right away, the second game, it would be stupid to do a remake of Path of the Furon (the game that killed the series). The trailer is your usual affair of gameplay and several quotes telling you to “buy it, buy it, no really, buy it now, we’ve worked on it so hard. Buy it.“
However, if you are one of those weirdos who hang about for end credit scenes, even in drama films, then you’ll notice a little scene between Cryptosporidium-137 and his clone 138. Around the point of 1:15-1:16, a little head pops out the corner of the frame, for the camera to readjust the shot to focus on the two Cryptos, the second asks “Are you done yet 137?” Those getting very, very, very excited are about to burst as I repeat 137’s line, “Wait your turn little tadpole. Nah, I’m only getting started” as he gets closer and stares down the camera.
Ok, you may not be wetting yourself at the knowledge that they are teasing another remake. However, IGN asked the game’s senior producer Martin Kreuch for a comment and he said: “We can‘t explain it to ourselves who that other Furon clone is either. We’ve contacted all intelligence agencies we know and asked for support.” The team has asked, “Majestic, the KGB, that guy in a tinfoil hat outside our office screaming at a phone box every day… We think we are onto something though.” Closing with “[we] may have more intel to share soon!” I guess it is time to get anal-probing again.
