Spiritfarer is one of 2020’s indie standouts for me. It won multiple awards and brought to life an imaginative, interesting experience. To my surprise, it seems that Thunder Lotus has plans to add even more content to Spiritfarer in 2021.

According to the press release, “Three separate updates are planned for release throughout 2021, and will notably expand upon the game’s main story, as well as adding additional characters, locations, and quality of life improvements. All updates will be free for owners of the game across all systems, including Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®4, Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Stadia.

Spiritfarer’s Creative Director Nicolas Guérin had this to say about the roadmap that was presented: “We’re tremendously happy with the praise Spiritfarer has received since launch. It’s attracted a very passionate group of fans too, which is great because the team is excited to keep supporting the game with new content this year! I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank our fans for their crucial input as we explored various ideas for new Spiritfarer content. Your feedback definitely helped us zero in on the best path forward for the project!”

If you would like to check out the roadmap for Spiritfarer’s upcoming free updates, you can do so here. Personally, I am very pleased that they are adding even more content to the game for free, though I think a lot of folks would invest in paid content if the devs weren’t this generous. In any case, I am excited to dig into Spiritfarer deeper and discover the new characters, locations, and story elements.

Spiritfarer is a beautiful game and adding new content to it is only a bonus for everyone involved really. If you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend picking it up on PC, Xbox One, Switch, or PlayStation 4.
