Bums, lots and lots of bums. For all that lovely nostalgia of previous years in video games that we all have, we as humans are just perverts with moral superiority. To prove my point, we have to look no further than Star Trek: Voyager‘s Seven of Nine, a crew of perverts with moral superiority. That nicely brings us to Mass Effect, one of the best series of Star Trek in video games that isn’t a money sinking MMO. It is also historically a bit heavy on the bums. Several scenes in the games are particularly focused on, as the Black Eyed Peas once called them, “My Humps.”
In a new interview with the British Tabloid that you’ll often find disheveled in a box on public transport, Metro, the director of the soon to be released Legendary Edition (Mac Walters) spoke of the changes coming to the remaster. Don’t get your pitchforks out just yet, as from what we understand the game will be mostly the same with a bump up in graphics, improved performance, the 40-pieces of DLC included, and the stupid multiplayer from Mass Effect 3 ripped out and told to think about what it did. Fans of the original release don’t have to worry about the game taking a massive sip of the Final Fantasy 7 – Remake juice, extending itself greatly to some fans’ pleasure and others’ dismay.
“I do think a lot of things have evolved since [the original games], but I don’t know if I would say we were ultra-concerned about it or anything like that,” said Walters. Going on to say, “[…] there were considerations. Kevin [Meek, environment and character director] actually called out some camera cuts that were just […] why was the focusing on Miranda’s butt?” Walters goes on to state, “So in some cases[,] we said ‘okay, we can make a change there.’ But ultimately, to change an entire character model or something like that wasn’t really […] it was a decision that was made as part of many creative decisions.”
In the same discussion on the game’s rather pervy camera from years gone by, as the game portrayed moral superiority in space, Walters said, “[A] male Shepherd animation would have him sitting with his legs quite wide open with a low camera where, if you were wearing a skirt, it would be a bit unflattering.” He went on to say, “So we can’t necessarily change that animation, but you can raise that camera up slightly to reduce the problem.” So the game won’t be recreated from the bottom (pardon the pun) up. However, there will be some more cosmetic changes to make it less gratuitous about what some do call, pandering to the male gaze.
