The time has finally come for some news on Resident Evil: Village with today’s Resident Evil Showcase! Capcom held the virtual event that operated much like a Super Smash Bros. Direct, filled to the brim with a bevy of info pertaining to the the eighth mainline entry into the most famous horror series of games of all time. The internet is already clamoring after the sultry vampire antagonist with tons of memes this week. So, what’s new? What else did Capcom reveal at today’s event?

There’s a lot of good news to share. First and foremost, we’ll be getting our hands on Resident Evil: Village on May 7th of this year. Earlier predictions pegged the game to release in the latter half of 2021, but we’re just above 3 months away from the release. In addition, it will launch on both last-generation (PS4/Xbox One) and current generation (PS5/Xbox Series X) on the same day. There will be no delay between one or the two. Here’s hoping last-gen isn’t too bottlenecked, because the game looks downright gorgeous.

There’s more, though! On the same day of the showcase, a demo for the game, entitled Maiden, was released onto the Playstation 5 storefront. The Silent Hill series had a legendary demo in PT (Playable Teaser), so here’s hoping Maiden can capture the same magic. In addition, an intriguing multiplayer game was announced: Resident Evil Re:Verse, which will see series staples become playable in an deathmatch format. The series has been shaky at best in multiplayer, with the embarrassing Umbrella Corps being better forgotten than remembered.

It’s safe to say the future of Resident Evil is bright as can be. Village is reminding a lot of fans of the series’ peak in Resident Evil 4, with a relative inventory system and a merchant appearing through the adventure. Resident Evil 7 picked up a lot of slack from the middling 6, so for protagonist Ethan Winters to return and the perspective kept to first person is a good sign to start with. Will you be picking up Resident Evil: Village this May?
