If you are a platform holder, either a storefront or console and its store, you have free PR for when you erode all the goodwill you’ve created with a game people love. So, you might have heard, that CD Projekt Red not only stood in some of their dog’s mess, but they have been eating it at rates that are just concerning now. Mike has a review later that covers his experience of the game, so I’ll refrain from actively poking the downright blind stupidity of hype-mongering troglodytes… at least until next week.
CD Projekt Red’s DRM-free PC storefront GOG is currently trying to earn back some goodwill surrounding the company with a bit of a giveaway on that storefront. As part of the GOG Winter sale, the storefront is offering Prison Architect for free until Saturday the 19th of December. Simply click on the green button that says, “Go To Giveaway.” I remember saying something to the effect that it is one of the best games of the last decade, returning to the business management sims of the 90s like Theme Hospital. That’s high praise from me.
In Prison Architect, you take control of some grounds and literally have to build your prison from the ground up. You spend time setting your foundations, filling power around the prison, trying not to create escape routes, and swearing profusely when you have to bring in the men with guns to quell the raging army of prisoners. It is great fun; until you have to run a women’s prison, and then it becomes a nightmare to control the baby population.
Along with Prison Architect being free to everyone on GOG, the winter sale has begun and will run until the 4th of January. Currently, there is 60% off of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, 75% off of The Witcher series, 60% off of Divinity: The Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition, and 50% off of Desperados III. While Deus Ex (2000) GOTY Edition is currently $0.93, Dungeon Keeper Gold and 2 are $1.49 each, and System Shock: Enhanced Edition and System Shock 2 are $2.49 each. While Prince of Persia (2008) is $2.30, The Sands of Time is $2.88, Warrior Within (the best one) is $2.30, and The Two Thrones is also $2.30.
That’s just a few ideas of the more than 3000 sales currently on GOG. You can get everything from The Outer Worlds, Control, TellTale’s The Walking Dead, Return of the Obra Dinn, Sim City 3000, Dying Light, XCOM 2, Frostpunk, Tropico 6, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, and lots more.
