As if Black Friday wasn’t dangerous enough, the global pandemic has destroyed the notion of the shopping rush that takes place on Thanksgiving Day every year. As such, the majority of deals have flocked to the internet, and we aren’t confined to the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend exclusivity. PlayStation is running a Black Friday sale like they usually do, and there’s certainly some grabs that should make you reach for your wallet this year.
Gravity Rush Remastered/Gravity Rush 2 – $9.89/$9.99
When you talk about the phrase “hidden gem”, nothing comes to my mind quicker than the Gravity Rush games. Both Gravity Rush Remastered and 2 are action titles with a fascinating control scheme – press R1 and gravity will come to a halt. Another press of R1 and you’ll soar towards your destination. This unique premise is married to a well-thought-out story and tons of side quests to pack each game with content. Comic-book cutscenes, exemplary character designs, and bombastic scores are also present to expound upon the polish that the developers put into this little-known franchise. At less than 10 dollars each, these are absolutely worthwhile purchases. Good luck finding a physical copy of the former at a reasonable price ever again.
LocoRoco Remastered – $7.94
Like Gravity Rush Remastered, LocoRoco Remastered takes what worked well on a handheld Sony console and shows that it can shine on a television set as well. As lighthearted and charming as can be, LocoRoco sees you navigate small creatures through dozens of brilliantly-designed levels. With a minimalistic control scheme, this is a very accessible title that any member of the family could enjoy. Additionally, it’s packed full of secrets for those looking to be a completionist. At ~$7, Sony’s polished-up LocoRoco Remastered gets a hearty recommendation from me.
Rogue Galaxy – $7.94
It felt like JRPGs were a dime a dozen back in the day, so you’re forgiven if you happened to miss out on this title that launched late in the PS2’s life cycle in 2007 in the States. You may know developer Level 5 going on to create the Professor Layton and Yo-Kai Watch series’, but this was their largest effort up to this point. Rogue Galaxy has a more visceral approach to its combat and is a thrill-ride for over 40 hours. It’s a no-brainer for under 8 bucks. I can tell this will be a worthwhile experience (personally) as this game has since reached cult-classic status and has tons of fans singing its praises to this day.
12 months of PlayStation Plus – $44.99
When one considers the benefits of PlayStation Plus, it’s a great idea to pick it up at a sale price. It means you get 24 free games over the course of a year, a lot of which are AAA titles. In addition, you’ll get access to online multiplayer with all of these titles and the ones you have. There are also PlayStation Plus exclusive sale prices over the duration of the year. While some retailers tend to drop the price of these physical cards to $39.99 during Black Friday, it may be advantageous of you to grab this deal if you have money leftover in your PlayStation wallet and want to reap a year’s worth of benefits.
Editor’s Note: The PlayStation Black Friday Sale runs until 11/30/2020.
