The year is coming to a close, the world is looking a bit darker in the northern hemisphere (blame The Sun), and the yearly advertisements by Geoff Keighley are almost here. My how tired of it I am already. I’ve still not recovered from last year’s showcase where I was bored to death by everything and hated it all. That’s the trouble with yearly events, they always come back around to slap you like Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Ok, that’s just me showing off my 40-year-old woman choices in TV. Let’s get to the point before I get to talking about Desperate Housewives.

Yes, those pesky Game Awards are back again, and the nominations have been announced to annoy everyone who liked different games, including myself. In fact, the biggest upset seems to be the Game of the Year nods, which are all a bit strange. The one that put me on the backfoot was The Last of Us Part II. While it was well-made and done so under duress, I just can’t think of that as the one to win it all. As the Bee Gees once sang, “When the feeling’s gone and you can’t go on. It’s tragedy.” Long-winded and lacking something interesting, it was once of the many strange announcements.

Among those nominated for Game of The Year is, of course, Animal CrossingFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, and Hades, along with Doom Eternal and Ghost of Tsushima. Along with The Last of Us Part II‘s nod in the Game of The Year, it is included along Grounded (early access), Assassin’s Creed: ValhallaHyperdot (I’ve never heard of it either!), and Watch Dogs: Legion for its accessibility. Meanwhile, Among Us and Call of Duty: Mobile lead the charge in “Best Mobile Game.” Even though that’s a false equivalency since there are no good mobile games, just microtransaction hellscapes. We’ll also ignore that Among Us on PC, iOS, and Android released in 2018.

F1 2020 and Dirt 5 are leading the racing portion of “best sports/racing [game],” while the clear winner, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 sits calmly waiting for the win. I am not wrong on that one, it is a remaster of the second-highest-rated game of all time to your precious Metacritic! SpiritfarerTell Me Why, and If Found lead games with the biggest impact. There is also a collection of faces that just I don’t know in the “content creator of the year” category. I assume that’s a new genre I don’t like. This comes along with “best esport athlete,” which is another genre of gaming I’ve never heard of. As usual, we’ll have the better awards at the end of the year, as I cast my vote and I am always right!
