The Bangles once sang they wished it was Sunday because it was a “Manic Monday.” That doesn’t help when your week starts on Sunday. Monday, I ran down everything for Prime Gaming this month, and hated it, again. I also spoke of Shadow of Mordor losing online features. Tuesday, I quickly spoke of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart‘s exclusivity, and Zoe covered the Vampire: The Masquerade battle royale, which is just what we all needed. Wednesday, Alexx spoke of two upcoming remasters coming by Ziggurat Interactive, and I very quickly ranted about Sniper Elite 4 being great; though I hold skepticism over it running well on the Switch.

As for this week’s free game on the Epic Games Store, I need to note something. On Monday, Epic noted there was a change to the lineup of what would be available this week, and thus I won’t be talking about Soviet Russia. Instead, I’ll be talking about something I need to give a quick pre-emptive warning for: As Kalypso Media provided myself with both codes for a PS4 and PC copy of Dungeons 3 back in 2017, my opinions on the game are entirely based on that experience. Well, I say from that experience. It also helps the game is voiced by Kevan Brighting; voice actor for The Stanley ParableVoid Bastards, and other things.

Dungeons 3 is a satirical takedown of the Dungeon Keeper games of my very young youth, with a hint of World of Warcraft being smacked around like an imp that isn’t working hard enough. Can you tell why I like it, already? Part fort protection and part sieging, unlike Dungeon Keeper, there is a plot that also pokes fun at high fantasy media, including Joanne Rowling’s horrible little works. It is not just an all-out attack, but a light-hearted roasting of high fantasy media and games of this ilk. It pulls off everything with a bit of fun to it.

Yesterday, over on our YouTube channel, I had a video of Watch Dogs: Legion to go along with my written review. However, that wasn’t the planned video until Monday morning/Sunday night, where I replaced the video of Dungeons 3 that will now go out next Thursday with said romp around London. To make another reference to music, a crap Lindsay Lohan film I quite like, and McFly, “Just My Luck,” isn’t it? The point I am trying to make is, I don’t like high fantasy and I’m not a fan of comedy in games (most of the time). I don’t care for World of Warcraft (or other MMOs), and I only like Dungeon Keeper (not that mobile trash!) through nostalgia. Yet, I bloody love Dungeons 3 and would squeal about it day and night if I had the time.

That said, the biggest issue I have with the game is that playing on consoles is a nightmare. This is something I’ve spoken about when talking about forced labor for kids in FrostpunkTropico 6‘s island paradise of dictatorship, and Two Point Hospital‘s nostalgia factor. It is quite annoying to say, as I do love it a lot, but it really is another strategy game that simply works better on PC overall. The world above your dungeon is very Warcraft-like and the underworld is nothing but Dungeon Keeper, yet it blends the two well. Dungeons 3 is easily one of the best games I played in 2017, and it is a game that has stuck in my memory ever since, with occasional thoughts of playing a bit more coming around.

This week, Dungeons 3 is available for free until Thursday, the 12th of November. Next week is The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia, I assume it is a game about a young woman in Texas being possessed by a demon, and all of the baptist priests and preachers of megachurches can’t save her. It is either that or that game that is a mix of a bullet hell and a typing tutor… the perfect game for a dyslexic, I think. Now, if you excuse me, I need to go and burn my hands off, so I don’t have to do next week’s article.
