Vampires in video games (and media in general) have always excited me. The BloodRayne franchise is no exception, and I have been a fan of BloodRayne and BloodRayne 2 for quite some time. A while back I had heard that a new company acquired the rights to the franchise and held out hope for an upcoming remaster or new release. It turns out, I was right.

Ziggurat Interactive will be releasing BloodRayne: Terminal Cut and BloodRayne 2: Terminal Cut on Steam and GOG as of November 20th, 2020. These two enhanced versions take the “Terminal Cut” moniker as an homage to the original developers, Terminal Reality, and will have a lot of enhancements for PC players. Here is what fans can look forward to on PC, according to the official press release:

  • Support for higher display resolutions (up to 4K / 3840×2160)
  • Improved rendering with up to 4x anti-aliasing
  • Upscaled cinematic videos
  • Support for modern gamepads (XInput controller support)
  • Improvements to lighting at engine level, plus fully reprocessed lighting data

  • Engine improvements to support uncompressed original textures
  • Improvements to effects such as reflections, water, fog, and shadows
  • Localizations include:
  • BloodRayne: Fully voiced with localized interfaces in English, French, Italian, Spanish
  • BloodRayne 2: Localized interface and subtitles for English, French, German, Italian, Spanish
  • Optimized for Windows 10

Here is what the president of Ziggurat Interactive, Wade Rosen, had to say about this coming remaster release: “The response was tremendous when we announced that we had taken over stewardship of the BloodRayne series. Fans have been asking what’s next for the series, and now we’re excited to show off the great work that’s been done by Terminal Reality on the first two titles.”

As a fan of the first two games, this is promising for a possibility that we might one day see a new BloodRayne game grace our screens. If these remasters are successful, I’d love to see Rayne come back for an all-new adventure. We’ve got Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 (and more) on its way, but this is another franchise we don’t want to forget about.

You will get BloodRayne: Terminal Cut and BloodRayne 2: Terminal Cut free on Steam and GOG if you own the original games already. Otherwise, people will be able to purchase them for an as yet undetermined price point on November 20th.
