This whole next-generation console launch malarky is just a bit of a mess. Between launch day titles, launch window titles, and all the cross-generation games that either do or don’t work straight away, it is all a bit confusing. Insomniac Games, their own Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of the biggest releases for the PS5, but it is also releasing on PS4 too. Not every game is getting this treatment, as that prequel to Dark Souls (i.e before it got “got gud”), Demon’s Souls is set to only be on the PS5.

Now it seems that Insomniac Games are having to answer questions with the blunt force honesty of a tired parent. Replying to a curious fan on Twitter asking if Ratchet and Clank’s next game Rift Apart will be on PS4 and PS5 or just the latter, the company said “It’s a PS5 exclusive.” Given the studio’s other PS5 game is doing the former, it doesn’t seem that far fetched of a question to have. Previously the studio has stated that the release of Rift Apart is set for “Launch window,” and at this rate, they will have to throw it through the window with force.

As of the time of writing, the PS5 is set to launch in 9-days. With backward compatibility that might be slightly less than the reported 99% of games, the launch window is almost upon us. One would assume Sony will want the kids and nostalgia focused action-adventure platformer out by Christmas. However, there is no news on when Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will release. Here is hoping there is an announcement soon.
