I knew it would be a huge release, but the Animal Crossing update for Halloween changed my approach to the game. Before this past update for October’s spookiest holiday, I played about 10 minutes a day. I would essentially get my fossils, fish a bit, and visit villagers. Now, I’m playing more than I have since April. Here’s why this event ended up restoring my faith and a lot of others’ in the game.
The best part of Halloween in real life is the candy. Dressing up is fun too, and getting together with friends is even better. All these elements are essential to the Animal Crossing Halloween experience. If you don’t love Halloween, then celebrating with your villagers can change that.
With fun, spooky items at the Nook Shop every day, it’s also easy to gather all the seasonal items. If you remember Bunny Day, which you very well may not want to, it was tough finding all the right recipes. DIYs didn’t seem so common for that seasonal event, but it’s much more balanced this time around. I’m grateful that it appears to be addressed by the developers in a meaningful way.
By collecting costumes and candy for October 31st, it’s clear that this game can make little changes to impact players in a big way. With the winter holidays around the corner, I’m even more excited to see what else is in store. Overall, it’s great to see so many people like me sticking with a game so simple and mundane. 2020 has been a mess of a year, but this game is helping a lot of people stay positive. Hopefully, it can continue to do so for months and years to come.
