You don’t have to ask me twice, I’ll talk about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 until the cows come home, and then I’ll tuck them in and tell them a bedtime story of the game. Yes, I gave it a glowing review that tormented me for a day before release as I bounced between a 9 and a 10 out of 10. I love it to death. In the video review (linked above), I said too many times it is the best game in the franchise. What makes it more shocking is that it is so good and it is a remake, remaster, or whatever you want to chop it up as, of one of the best games of all time, period. There is nothing quite like it, and I don’t think there will be for quite some time.

Yes, since 2015 there have been mobile games and the likes of something small, but it was never going to live up to fan’s expectations. 2015 was the last time we saw the release of a “Pro Skater” game, though it was met with a lot of derision from fans of the series and fringe observers for its unfathomably awful ability to be a crash-in, as some called it. Pro Skater 5 was genuinely awful on several levels, so much so that I’m surprised Activision didn’t attempt to hire Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith to wipe it from our memories. As much as I could praise THPS 1 + 2, I could kick THPS 5 for just as long though I’ll stop here.

THPS 1 + 2 has become the fastest-selling game in the series’ history and has already hit 1-million units sold. To once again answer Taylor’s question, as I did in the review, “Are the Tony Hawk Remasters Testing the Waters?” I hope so. If not, I’ll be the first one to rattle down the door of Activision and Tony Hawk, with quite a few others behind me wanting more from Vicarious Visions. You’d have to be stupid to look at the desire, not only for this expansion of the older games, but the overall want for more Tony Hawk games in general and say “Nah.”

Tony Hawk Pro Skater (Underground and American Wasteland too) are one of the reasons I love games. They are also the reason I like the fun and unrealistic games. This past generation was filled with remasters and remakes, and the coming generation of gaming looks similar. Because of that, I hope we’ve come full circle to go back into the extreme sport genre again and bring back Tony Hawk’s, SSX, and Jet Set Radio. I love smacking myself off of concrete halfpipes, I want to do that more!
