The Prince of Persia series is anything but flawless. The first game in the original trilogy dates back to 1989. Since then, Ubisoft has tried to reboot the series twice to mixed results. The most famous game in the illustrious history of these titles is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Released 17 years ago, it’s hard to say what lasting impact the game had on the industry and community. We’ll find out if the game still has legs according to a leak that it is getting a remake.

According to ResetEra user AndrewDTF, the game is getting a full remake. Supposed screenshots of the remake point to the project being already underway. No details on a release or what consoles this will come to were given. As many commenters noted, the graphics on the characters look rough. It’s unclear if these are screenshots from the past game or the remake.

The game follows an unnamed Prince whose father sacks a Maharaja’s city at the instigation of its treacherous Vizier. During the attack, the Prince obtains an artifact called the Dagger of Time, while his army captures an hourglass containing the Sands of Time. Visiting Azad to present the Sands as a gift to the city’s ruler, the Vizier tricks the Prince into releasing the Sands, transforming the city’s population into savage monsters. Together with the Maharaja’s daughter Farah, the Prince works to correct his mistake and return the Sands to the hourglass.

With heavy platforming and action sequences, the game provided a reboot for the Prince of Persia series. Originally releasing on Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox and Microsoft Windows in 2003, the game sold over 2 million copies in its first year. That’s nearly 18 years ago, however, and who knows when the remake will release. Will fans still want to see this game again? Considering how many people never played a Prince of Persia game, I’m curious to see what the reception for this is even going to be.
