One of my most anticipated 2020 releases is no longer coming this year. Insert sad face, but also, I get it. The 2020 game dev cycle is all thrown for a loop thanks to a global pandemic. Coupled with the massive undertaking this game was going to be, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is no longer coming in this calendar year. The reasoning is pretty obvious, but that doesn’t mean plenty of fans aren’t disappointed by the news.

The game is being moved back due to COVID-19 difficulties and a need for more time to fine-tune the product. It’s understandable that developers are sort of lost given the remote work climate many major studios are operating with right now. Needless to say, a rushed game is always worse than a delayed game, so I guess we’ll be patient. Still, it’s going to be a blast to see all this game has to offer when it does release.

In the game, players can dive into the Skywalker saga and access any of the nine saga films right away in any order they choose. They can direct where to go and how to play making it like a one-stop-shop for reliving classic moments in the movies. Another element that makes these games unique is the insane character library. Players can play as Luke Skywalker, Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Finn, BB-8, and a legion of other heroes, or turn to the dark side as Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Kylo Ren, and more. Literally hundreds of characters are playable.

It’s a huge undertaking to fit 9 movies worth of a game in a single experience. Not to mention, COVID-19 changed a lot of development plans for game companies. Hopefully, 2021 looks up and we can get our hands on the games we love. If you’re looking for a release date, keep your eyes peeled to the game’s information page.
