PS5 Will Support PS4 Controller for Some Titles

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are going to be revolutionary for a number of reasons. One reason is going to be the sheer amount of games you can play on a single console. Both Microsoft and Sony see a benefit in offering backward compatibility. Xbox will offer a bit more of a “play anything from us” approach to things. Sony on the other hand is going to support a collection of games that likely hits all the best titles from past generations. Sony is also confirming that the PS4 controller will be supported on the PS5 for past gen games.

The DualShock 4, PS4’s controller, is going to work on the PS5. The only caveat is that PS5 games will not work with DS4. This is likely because the new DualSense controller is going to feature new peripherals for next-gen games. Still, it’ll be nice to see that you can use your DualShock 4 if you’d like. There are also some other accessories that will continue to be supported on the PS5, according to the latest Sony blog.

Sony notes the following support of PS4 accessories:

Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games
The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5)
The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games
Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5

Are these mind-blowing announcements?
