Telltale closing meant all of its popular game series were in jeopardy. That included Monkey Island, a pirate-themed game, that was no longer available for purchase. Luckily, we’ve seen a lot of Telltale favorites return to PC and console stores. Now, Monkey Island is back up on GOG and Steam for purchase as well.

Tales of Monkey Island released in 2009 under license from LucasArts. Players assume the role of pirate Guybrush Threepwood who, while attempting to destroy his nemesis the undead pirate LeChuck, accidentally releases a voodoo pox across the Gulf of Melange. With the assistance of his wife, Elaine Marley–Threepwood, Guybrush seeks out a cure. The LucasArts collab made the game interesting and most people who played it thought it was quite fun. When Telltale closed, it seemed like the game was dead.

Other Telltale games have returned as well. The Walking Dead receiving a definitive edition and Batman’s Shadow Edition sort of reinvented what the game was. The likelihood of any special treatment for Monkey Island is unlikely. Screenshots show how dated the game really is. Still, fans of Telltale shouldn’t skip this one. The framework of this title led to a bunch of favorites like The Wolf Among Us and Game of Thrones getting similar styled games.

Will we see a full return for Telltale Games? The plan, for now, is uncertain. The company is being revived after its assets were purchased by a company called LCG Entertainment. The new company will sell some of Telltale’s back catalog and will work on new games based on a few Telltale-associated properties, as well as new licenses. Let’s hope we get a second season of The Wolf Among Us or maybe more DC adventures too.
