If you’re like most of the sane part of humanity, you’ve played or at the very least bought The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I’d honestly say it is a truly wonderful semi high-fantasy RPG with dark elements. It gives a sense of grounded reality to a world of witches, Thomas Dam’s ugly little Trolls, and whatever that sex unicorn would be logged under. It is one of the few proper RPGs that I do like, as most before 2015 would stick to a Skyrim-like archetype for reasons known only to literally no one. I’d credit this wonderfully dark RPG as the reason I enjoy some RPGs, light or not, and is why I explore more games.

Like many of you, I’m due for a replay of the game. Luckily until the 23rd of June, you can pick up the game for free on GOG Galaxy. Announced yesterday, if you own or have owned The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on (almost) any system you can pick a free copy on GOG using the DRM-free launcher’s integration options. You’ll want to update the launcher, as this offer is only available for update 2.02.16.187 (2.0.16.200 for macOS) or later, which will provide a banner offering the game.

Already own the game on PC? If you own it on Steam, you can get a copy on GOG too, or if you already own it on GOG you can get a free giftable copy to give to a friend. PlayStation, Xbox, Origin, or Epic Games Store copies also grant you access to this offer, though if you own a Nintendo Switch copy there is no integration available for this platform. As the game comes in only two editions, you will receive the edition you already own. Have the standard edition? You’ll get that copy. Got the Game of the Year edition? You’ll get that instead.

Of course, the question to ask would be, if I own the standard edition but bought all the DLC separately, do I get the Game of the Year edition? No.

That said, in an attempt to claim this offer with my PS4 copy, as many have, there have been a couple of issues. Speaking on my experience, before writing I had been trying for quite a few hours, closing, restarting, swearing, and repeating. These issues may be due to a bug, as some others have noted across Reddit and other social media platforms. If you go to claim the offer and find this issue, you can both check the FAQ or check back in a day or two for an update if that doesn’t help.
