Yesterday, EA finally showed off a teaser trailer for the next big Star Wars game, Star Wars: Squadrons. It is being developed by EA Motive, the same studio the bought us the campaign for Star Wars Battlefront II.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be mostly focused on multiplayer, engaging players in 5 vs 5 aerial combat with iconic Star Wars ships. From X-Wings and B-Wings to Tie Fighters and Tie interceptors, expect some exciting pilot-on-pilot action.

Two modes were announced, “Fleet Battles” and “Dogfights.” Fleet Battles feature both teams being tasked with destroying the opposing team’s flagships, while Dogfights is a simple team deathmatch mode. However, squad composition will play an important role in your victory, as mixing different classes of ships will help make up for any weaknesses that another ship is bound to have.

Star Wars: Squadrons will also include cosmetic and gameplay-related customization such as improving shields, engines, and weapons. All of those customization options will be earned solely through gameplay and not any form of loot boxes.

Squadrons will also feature a single-player story written by Mitch Dyer, Co-writer for Star Wars Battlefront II and Joanna Berry, who was a writer for Dragon Ages: Inquisition, Mass Effect Andromeda, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Squadrons is set after the events of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, after the destruction of the second Death Star, and will alternate between playing as the New Republic and the remnants of the Empire.

Not only will Star Wars: Squadrons come packed with a story campaign and multiplayer mode, you also will get treated to a VR mode on PlayStation 4 and PC. Now players can experience the thrill of Star Wars’ space combat in the comfort of earth’s atmosphere and gravity.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 2nd 2020, and will set you back $39.99 USD.
