Understandably, news has taken a bit back seat right now, which is where it belongs in times like this. Nonetheless, Monday, I covered the Twitch Prime Loot for June, and Abdul covered PlayStation Plus. Tuesday, David covered BlizzCon’s cancellation, Abdul spoke about Captain Tsubasa‘s release date, and Taylor spoke of a blocky Pac-Man. Wednesday, Dmitry spoke about gaming coming together in support of Black Lives Matter, while Mike spoke about a band teasing a feature coming next week. Thursday, I covered Total War Saga: Troy coming to the Epic Games Store for free for 24-hours.
Well, this was a surprise for the Epic Games Store. For the last few weeks we had been doing what seemed to be a 2K rundown. In fact, just after the Grand Theft Auto V released on Epic there was a “Leak” of the coming games for the next two or three weeks. In order, those leaks would Civilization VI, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, and it would conclude with Ark: Survival Evolved. Well, this would be the third week in those leaks and we’re not talking about Ark. In fact, we’re not really going to be talking about dinosaurs unless we talk about an in-game skin.
No, we’re talking about Overcooked, a co-op cooking game about swearing when a dinosaur drops off the truck that is cut in half and holds a kitchen in the back. The good thing is, I don’t have to play it this week. I did the last time (almost a year ago) it was free on Epic. I’m not really a fan of playing games with others unless I can knock them out for being annoying, you know, as a sane person would do. It is one of those games that really requires couch co-op, not this online co-op that has to be used right now. That is why this is a strange choice of replacement for Ark, a few of us are just coming out of our lockdowns, why give people a game that is couch co-op focused on PC, something I keep in an office?
Overcooked is free on the Epic Games Store until 8 AM (PDT)/ 11 AM (EDT). Given Epic’s silence on announcing Overcooked, (at least on Twitter) and major sites releasing their articles a lot later than usual, this may have been a quick decision. Given Ark is as strong and stable as Britain’s last Prime Minister, there may be some issues with the game’s ability to work with the Epic Games Store, either from a network sense or something else. Either way, next week’s “Mystery game” might very well be Ark once and for all, or something else we’ve seen already.
