It’s insane that so many people know Pac-Man who don’t even play video games. Likely the first full-blown gaming character icon, Pac-Man still holds cultural weight in gaming and beyond. Another major game that impacted the past 15 years, Minecraft, is ready to welcome the yellow pellet-eating figure to its game in a new take on the classic game.
The great thing about the new Pac-Man/Minecraft collab is that the best elements of each game are present. In a trailer that debuted the game mode, Pac-Man elements are there. From pellets to ghosts and yes the main character himself, things look familiar. That’s not true, of course, of the now cubic take on the game, thanks to the stylings of Minecraft. From the video, we can see this interesting first-person view of Pac-Man that’s honestly a little scary.
The giant ghosts are ominous in a way that sort of surprised me. Another fun surprise – costumes! We’ll be getting a few different looks for the character in Minecraft Pac-Man, which looks to be a separate mode that is not hosted within a real-world, but rather an in-game arcade machine. There’s an option to create levels, host your high score online, and even explore things from Pac-Man’s point of view in new and fun ways.
It’s not like a collab like this is hard to pull off. There are a lot of people who play Minecraft, so it’s advantageous for a Bandai Namco to get its IPs in the title any way possible. Instead of simple skins, this appears to be a well-fleshed out project. Best of all? It’s out now! No waiting for this one, so get to your game console or PC and dive into that WAKA-WAKA action we all know and love.
