How could a major gaming company bringing games to a successful console make headlines? In a funny way, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. 2K is one of the biggest names in gaming, and somehow continues to grow year after year. Not to mention, they are responsible for publishing huge hit series like Borderlands and Bioshock. Why on Earth would it be surprising that more 2K games are coming to the Switch then? After all, it’s a popular console.

The mystery behind Switch ports comes from two places. Firstly, the majority of AAA developers failed to follow Nintendo into its Wii U crusade. The Switch is a wildly different story, with most retailers having a tough time keeping games and consoles on shelves. This week, Bioshock: The CollectionXCOM 2, and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection come to the Switch. According to a 2K exec, that’s not all they’re planning.

2K chief creative Sami Thessman had kind words to say about the publisher’s relationship with the console and game titan: “I can’t tell you all about our business strategies, but what I can say is we at 2K consider our relationship with Nintendo to be extremely important. We really want to keep releasing games for Nintendo Switch moving forward.

In other words, this week’s releases aren’t the last of what’s to come for Switch players. If you stuck with Nintendo through the Wii U years then you know how great it is to see top-tier games coming to a Nintendo console. It’s not something anyone should take for granted. Nintendo worked hard to make their new console work for publishers and developers. Plus, its handheld-home-hybrid interface changed the game for players as well. All in all, it’s been a successful console cycle.
