Being as opinionated as I am has its drawbacks ya know? Over the course of nearly four-hundred articles in the last year and a bit, I’m always unsure if what I’m about to say will leave us on a blacklist for reviews. If there is one place those opinions will result in such a stupid course of action, it would probably be EA and my opinions on them. Already this year, I’ve used my spot to yell about their “surprise mechanics,” otherwise known as gambling sold to children. This won’t make much more of a difference, as I yell at them again while semi-naked on the lawn.

Skating games are ingrained in the fabric of the PS2-era of gaming, as such many of us love them and have fond memories of them. The following generation saw the final nail in the coffin when it came to those “extreme sports” games. Though more recently, we have seen a slight resurgence in these games with Session and Skater XL. Nevertheless, many want EA to release another Skate game, that slapstick comedy thing that everyone bangs on about but never really played other than banging a man’s penis off a railing.

According to Jason Dill, pro skater, on (link contains a bit of swearingThe Nine Club there is some news on the Skate series that wasn’t revealed. Previously we spoke about The Nine Club when Lizzie Armanto spoke about her work within the Tony Hawk’s series, with this being the second time games have been brought up in a conversation. Dill says, “I got this call from the EA people about ten months ago, and they said, ‘Hey, we want to talk about the Skate game,’.” In his time talking with EA, he would email with someone at EA about the details.

In Dill’s words, “So this woman emailed me and said ‘Hey Jason we want to do a mobile version of Skate 3.’ And I wrote back and I said ‘what else?’.” There was nothing else, that was it. The hosts of the podcast, as you would, suggested the monetary gain from this; but Dill wasn’t thinking that and oddly enough that made me like him for it. “So I wrote back, ‘Look, no big deal. No one wants your stupid mobile version of Skate 3. Make Skate f***ing four already, cause like, just do it already.’.” Dill said.

Dill makes a point that I’d argue in the worst possible way, “Just make the game and just participate again, and you can’t level it to the same numbers you get on other games.” Dill went on to say, “You do it for a cultural thing that pays you back later, and that’s how corporations f***ing can work if they play their cards right.” Though my skateboard is currently collecting dust in the corner of my office, that is what skating games have been. They were a massive cultural influence on many of us who like punk, the clothes around skating, and the general atmosphere that skating is about. In short, Dill told EA to shove-it when it came to their mobile game.

What kicked off this story was Dill talking about his life back in New York, with friends who didn’t bring home the Tony Hawk games. Dill would call his friend who was in the game for the cheat codes. This was before we all knew to jump to Gamefaqs for all those codes of course, so he called his friend for the cheats. This lead to the throwaway line “[and] I think it’s interesting now that, you know, Tony Hawk’s putting out another game.” Quickly he shifted on the EA story while hyperactively wiggling about in his chair, which has given me some newfound hope for the Tony Hawk’s game leaked a few months back.

As revealed earlier this week, EA is set to hold its EA play event during what would have been E3 this year in June. We will probably see some Star WarsFIFA, and the usual nonsense, but we may see Skate 3 revealed the same as Command and Conquer Rivals. I’m sure blood will be pouring out of people’s eyes at that reveal too.
